Yahoo Local Goes Live
Yahoo Local left beta today, joining the myriad of other Yahoo services out there. Guaranteed to be the major news of the day (unless Google announces it has cracked the secret formula for combining search and chocolate pudding), I'l have more later. But for now, here's a few other blogs that have commented already:
- Yahoo Search Blog - the official announcement, plus explanations of how feedback during the two-month beta resulted in some good interface improvements.
- Search Engine Watch
- Search Engine Watch Blog - Kudos to Yahoo for moving from a beta service to a fully-featured release in just two months. By contrast, Google moved its local search from Google labs into beta back in March, and not much seems to have changed since then. At least at this stage, Yahoo Local is the superior service. I'm looking forward to Google's response, which given the history of competitive jostling between these companies should happen relatively quickly.
