Yahoo On The Desktop
With all the excitement lately in the world of search, and the insistence that Google is going to reinvent the world (and do it by Tuesday, no less), it's easy to forget Yahoo has been doing this for longer (10 years this month, to be exact) and trying the same things. It's been a long, hard road, but many of these things we hope to see from Google by next week are just now materializing at Yahoo. Can we wait five more years for Google to bring us IM, its own ISP, a browser, a music service, personalization, and lots of other goodies? Of course not. Google took the lead very quickly, and must now diversify even faster. But if Google diversifies too fast, and puts out lackluster products, that will be every bit as bad as doing nothing at all.
