Google Showing News Images In Google Images
Google now shows the top images from Google News when you search Google Images. Look at this result for a search for "troops":

Is this new, or have I just not noticed it before?

UPDATE: John Battelle posts about this (and gives me credit, thank you very much), and notices that this fixes, to an extent, the complaints about Google Image Search. Since it was revealed that the index is updated every six months, and was missing important, newsworthy images, including two news images kind of solves the problem. I hadn't looked at it that way, but that does make it an excellent idea.

Comments:
It's been there since Apr.

They must have increased the frequency, because I run upwards of 100 queries a day just on Image Search, and this is the first time I've seen it. They still need to increase the frequency, though. I get results for "Bush", but not "Scott Peterson". Not that that is necessarily a bad thing...

As Ram points, it began to run in April (http://google.dirson.com/noticias.new/0454/)

I search google images several times a day, and this is new to me. Perhaps I just am not using the right search terms...

I also posted about this in April 2004:
